RESOURCESIf you or someone you know is in need of immediate help, visit the United Way 2-1-1 website, dial 2-1-1- on your phone for free confidential information, housing, employment, health care, counseling and more. The call center is open Monday-Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Shelter availability is updated every morning around 8:45 a.m. Resources may also be found through the 2-1-1 Colorado database at any time. Losing a home can happen to anyone. Did you know?
- Job loss, family death/divorce, and illnesses are the most common causes of homelessness.
- According to a study conducted by the National Low Income Housing Coalition, minimum wage workers need to work 102 hours per week to afford a 2-bedroom rental unit in Colorado.
- 43% of Metro Denver residents have family members or close friends who have experienced homelessness.
- 24% of the homeless were “newly homeless” for less than a year or homeless for the first time.
- Aurora has the highest percentage of females that are homeless in the metro area.
- More than half the people experiencing homelessness in Aurora are families with children.
- More than 14,050 children in Metro Denver don’t have a home to go to after their school day? These numbers have increased 322% in the past ten years.
- Aurora Public Schools reported 2,392 at-risk and homeless kids enrolled in school.
